“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller”, once said somebody. Apparently somebody called Ibn Battuta, one of history’s great travelers. I’ve always very much liked the idea of being a storyteller, but never found a real reason to do so.
Let me backtrack a little.
Hi, my name is Ben and about five months ago, myself and my girlfriend Fran booked a one way ticket to Thailand to begin what we’re hoping will be a multi-month trip through South East Asia. I’ve always had a passion for writing, and after finishing a journalism degree a good four years ago, other than the first couple of chapters of a since abandoned novel I’ve never followed up on it. However with the trip of a lifetime seeming like a pretty good thing to write about, I now find myself in an interesting situation with the opportunity to bring two of my passions together, writing and travel. Which brings you to Lost in the World, a blog I’m hoping will document our adventures over the next who knows how many months.
Other than keeping friends and family members back at home up to date (to some extent) on what I’m up to, I’m hoping this blog will bring a far corner of the world to those who have not been quite as lucky as me to run away and explore it, and more importantly, will display the joys of simply getting out and seeing the world.
Hopefully my experiences and journeys will also be useful to anyone planning on doing anything similar, as I’ll certainly be passing on any advice or tips as I go!
